Apus or Bird of Paradise is one of the 88 constellations modern astronomers have divided the sky into. It's part of the Bayer constellation family. Apus is best seen in July (from latitudes +5° to -90°).

Apus, located in the Southern Hemisphere, represents the bird of paradise. It originally had a longer tail, but it was shortened to make room for Octans in the 1750s. The constellation is made up of 8 stars. Its name comes from the Greek word, apous, which means ‘footless’. At one time people believed that Birds of Paradise did not have any feet.
