Volans or The Flying Fish is one of the 88 constellations modern astronomers have divided the sky into. It's part of the Bayer constellation family. Volans is best seen in March (from latitudes +10° to -90°).

Volans represents a real type of fish found in tropical waters that can leap out of the water and glide through the air on wings. Sometimes the fish landed on the decks of ships and were used for food. The constellation’s brightest star is Beta Volantis, an orange giant found 107 light years from Earth. It is around 8.5 times bigger, 1.62 more massive, and 41 times brighter than our Sun. Other constellation’s bordering Volans includes Chamaeleon, Dorado, Mensa and Pictor.
