Happy New Year

This simple sentence can be hollered, hugged, smooched or “hoorahed” with a hangover. But before you get too inebriated to remember which one of these traditions you followed, be sure to make your sentiments known, beforehand, to all your family and friends with a new year wishes greeting card.

This simple sentence can be hollered, hugged, smooched or “hoorahed” with a hangover. But before you get too inebriated to remember which one of these traditions you followed, be sure to make your sentiments known, beforehand, to all your family and friends with a new year wishes greeting card.

Sending a beautiful card to people you care for is a nice way to show you are thinking about them and wishing them all the best for the coming new year. Plus, it also gets you off the hook for having to make all those first-day-of-the-new-year phone calls – you’ll thank me later if the only call you can make January first is to the porcelain bowl.

New Year Cards

You can find many new year cards at your local retailers, but why fight the traffic, long line-ups and the general chaos this season typically brings, when you can print out your own new year wishes message?

I did some digging around on the web and narrowed it down to a few sites that offered a wide variety of options. These sites are all user-friendly and allow you to write a message on the inside of your card by simply typing in your text. Be sure to use good card stock and the highest ink quality on your printer to ensure the best final product.

  • The first site I clicked on was Got Free Cards. The choices here range from simple and whimsical cards, to some that look somewhat like an Impressionist painting. Once you decide on the card, you simply click the cover and it takes you to the easy-to-follow template.
  • If you prefer to work in a pdf format, Xerox offers some simple templates that are easy to design and print out. Your choices are limited for the new year’s category, but this template does offer a smaller note-size card, so if you are sending out a number of them this season, it may be the best way to go.
  • I saved the best for last with All-Free-Download.com. This site offers a wide range of styles and designs and with a great printer, these cards can look professional. The templates are simple to use as you just download the file to your computer and work from there.

New Year Wishes

Okay, so you have chosen the perfect card, but what do you write in it? If you are a poet or a writer at heart, then this probably won’t be a problem, but if you have trouble expressing yourself in words, I have compiled a list of new year’s quotes and messages you can use. And feel free to take the author’s name off and use it as your own… it will be our little secret.

  • Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one. ~ Brad Paisley
  • We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce
  • Each age has deemed the new-born year. The fittest time for festal cheer. ~ Walter Scott
  • I would say happy new year but it’s not happy; it’s exactly the same as last year except colder. ~ Robert Clark
  • Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties. ~ Helen Keller
  • New Year’s Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time. ~ James Agate
  • Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed. ~ Cavett Robert
  • Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. Middle age is when you’re forced to. ~ Bill Vaughn
  • A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~ Author Unknown

Tis the season to send good cheer to all those we love (and even those we tolerate). Try your hand at making unique cards your friends and family will love and cherish. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t come out Hallmark-quality, it’s the thought that counts… plus, you can always use the practice ones for those you use just tolerate.

Happy New Year from our family to yours. May you bring in the new year with a smile on your face and a joyful note in your heart…
