Christmas Makeup Looks

We all want to look our best and Christmas time is no exception. It is also the time of year that we need the most help – or at least I do. From the constant hassles of food planning, family visits and the kids growing excitement (and the newest must-have Christmas toy that changes on a commercial-to-commercial basis) my face looks tired and worn out…

There are many wonderful makeup tutorials online that can give your face a stunning new look. This video shows you how to apply beautiful browns and gold eye makeup to give you a stunning, simple and affordable look. The tones are soft and delicate on your cheeks, leaving your eyes the focal point of your face. This is definitely amazing and would really make your face pop on the big day.

After I watched a few videos, I decided this year I wasn’t going to go with my old standby makeup – which basically consists of some Chap Stick, the pinching of my cheeks for color and sticking my head in the oven (while checking the bird) for that holiday glow. This year I was going to wow my guests with an all out facial makeover.

Since my idea of a facial is splashing water over my face when time permits, I decided to take the information highway once again for my transformation, and I have to tell you, it was quite the journey. Did you know there is more than just soap to wash your face with now?

All-Natural DIY Facials

I read about ways to give yourself a spa-treated face at home and knew this was the way I wanted to go. However, what did I need to do; lighten, brighten, moisturize, exfoliate, tone, smooth, cleanse? I took a good look at my face and decided (with a sigh) that I could probably use the full treatment.

So I grabbed all the ingredients I would need to take ten years off my face. This included papaya peel, oatmeal, honey, lemon oil, yogurt, green tea and apple cider vinegar. The first recipe I read suggested taking the pulp out of the papaya and rubbing the skin on my tired lines and dim complexion. The next was a cleanse with two tablespoons each of yogurt and lemon juice combined as a mask. Then to exfoliate came the oatmeal, olive oil and honey.

Each individual process took a lot of time, so I came up with a better, time-saving idea. Why not mix everything into one big goop and slather it all on at once? The end result resembled a pile of my last child’s stomach flu or that weird dip I once had at a French restaurant, but I knew there was “no gain without some pain.” Plus, the hollowed out papaya made an excellent bowl for my homemade concoction.

I stood in front of the mirror with a towel wrapped around my neck and generously slathered on my elixir and waited an hour – the total length of my morning talk show. After I washed it off my face it did feel a bit softer, plus my do-it-yourself goop smelled good enough to eat. So I poured the contents into the other half of the papaya and got ready to practice my makeup techniques.

Christmas Party Look

Makeup has come a long way since the blusher, eyeshadow and lip color. Now you can actually make your face into a walking work-of-art. The video I have included shows you how to wow your face by simply drawing on some festive accents. I loved the candy cane lips, but the thought of having a Christmas ball and tree branch on my face kind of freaked me out a bit. But hey, I need to live a little, so I thought I’d practice these methods.

Since I don’t have a full makeup palette as shown, I went with what I had – lipstick, eyeliner and some blush. First I drew on the branch making sure I extended my eyeliner out to the corner of my brow, then added the Christmas ball. However, when I tried to fill it in with my red lipstick, it kind of got away from me and I ended up looking like Bozo the Clown – you try making a round ball with lipstick, it’s not easy! Plus, when you try to scrub it off, you look like someone tried to beat the Christmas crap outta you.

Oh well, I didn’t really think it was my style anyway, but I knew I could pull off the lipstick – it’s a couple of stripes, how hard can that be…? Let’s just say if you are going to try to make art on your face have the proper tools. My lipstick was not fine enough to get the definite lines and without the white base, my lips just looked like I had been on a wild make out party that got out of hand.

So much for my Christmas makeover. But who am I kidding? By the time I get the kids organized and peeled off the ceiling Christmas morning, plus breakfast, cleanup and pre-dinner prep, I barely have time to get dressed (aka Christmas attire disaster of 06, but that’s a whole other story). So I guess I will just splash some water on my face, pinch my cheeks and make sure I stuff my head in the oven a few times to ensure a nice healthy holiday glow.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!
