Curiosidades sobre a Estrela da Morte de Star Wars

OSR blog post

Hoje não vamos falar apenas de uma estrela qualquer, mas sim de um dos grandes símbolos da cultura nerd do nosso mundo.

Let’s face it, the Death Star isn’t just a symbol, right? It’s one of the main and most important elements of the entire Star Wars franchise, and it’s been present since the beginning, when A New Hope was released more than 30 years ago.

“It is a time of civil war. Launching from a secret base, rebel ships attack and win their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, rebel spies manage to steal the secret plans for the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, protecting the stolen plans that could save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy…”

Who doesn’t remember those words, huh? And how about learning some interesting facts about this star that isn’t really a star, but rather a true weapon of mass destruction? Check it out!

Size of the Death Star and its firepower

With a diameter of over 120 kilometers and more than 357 internal levels, the Death Star is about the size of a small moon. This weapon, which is also a gigantic space station, has the capacity to house everything from TIE Fighters to the powerful and enormous Imperial Star Destroyers.

Like most of the spaceships in the saga, the Death Star could move through space at the speed of light. Its laser, powered by hypermatter reactors and gigantic Kyber crystals, has the power to destroy planets with a single shot. But before another shot can be fired, the star has to recharge for about 24 hours!

The rebel plan to destroy the Star.

If you haven’t seen Star Wars yet, watch it! And here’s a spoiler warning: The Rebel Alliance, right at the beginning of A New Hope, steals important files—the plans and schematics for the Death Star—which end up in the hands of the lovely Princess Leia. Due to an Imperial counterattack, this data ends up in the care of the droid R2-D2, who eventually meets the hero Luke Skywalker on the desert planet of Tatooine.

Death Star 2.0

It turns out the rebels manage to destroy the first Death Star. Don’t know how? Again, watch the movie! And after the first Death Star battle station was destroyed, the Empire immediately began construction of a second Death Star, much larger and more heavily constructed than the first.
